you
had to fall for him, rhea. there was no choice. i too tried hard not to
notice. even before seeing the first episode i'd decided, he'd be just a
gauche, trying hard to be tycoon actor, and not me, i was not watching
all this, i am not into hindi serials anyway.
he'll never look
this young again. but he'll look different, older, something else in his
eyes. and i hope i will always get that little oh no i'm about to fall
feeling when i see him.
breaking my heart that he'll be on tv and i won't be watching.

that womanly thing in khushi... how sanaya portrayed it. smashing. that's what asr did perhaps for khushi, let her reach into herself and find out everything that she was, could be... i loved the way the girl woman was played... so real. i so wish they had given this a chance instead of constantly caging her up. and really, one can theorise and write stories but till actors get it and portray it like that... how how how... serial after serial i am seeing so called better written female leads, supposed chemistry, much delved into concepts of love, but not one gives me a moment like that. when in fact... saansey ruk jaaygi happens. these two... really something else together. i will always hope to see them together again. even when they are as old as nani ji and nana ji.

the blog is a little messed up. pictures have disappeared. so i try and to fix
it almost every day. which means i see the edits closely again as i find
them, upload to imgur, add them back to the posts... every day i find
myself stopping and staring at the shots. often not very good edits. and
i wonder, did we really see this level of acting on tv? i can actually
feel my heart do funny things, just looking at stills. remember this
episode? a man walking away and creating his own space, standing there,
recalling things, his whole body tense, arching. his thoughts
concentrating and a sense of sahi and galat swamping all... and
something else... something he doesn't understand, yet it holds him in
its grip. he has just brought his girlfriend home, he has offered to
show her his room, he has defended her right to be treated with courtesy
and have her own way of looking at life no matter how different... and
every now and then a girl who shouldn't matter slips into his mind,
makes him think, feel, yearn... a rewind button is spoken of. something
tells you he wished he had one. no words, just a young untrained actor
before a camera on a frantic set in a hindi soap. no pampering. no star
treatment. just a tv lead. he yanks me to moments i didn't even know an
actor could... or anyone else for that matter. these scenes were well
constructed and written, but minus that acting...

this was a jodi like none i've ever seen. a quality of something
igniting, combusting, catching fire. and yet there was laughter and
intelligence and candour and fun in it. even the thought of one thinking
of the other is sensuous, almost erotic, bringing on colonies of
butterflies in the stomach.
from a chat with a friend on facebook.
asr...
so much there. i was thinking, every fortnight they finished
practically a full length film in terms of time, about 210 minutes... so
i am talking good old days' long movie. i don't want to reduce the
argument to numbers, but really, after this amount of work, and as you
say, as long as he was around it was special, and it was... always but
always brought something to the moment, i feel it's pretty unfair to
actors that they get lumped as one-serial or two-serial heroes. in three
years, there wasn't practically one evening when barun sobti was not on
tv entertaining his viewers, and entertainment of a pretty high order.
shravan was lovely, asr was heart grazing... and yet he has to wait for a
hindi film success to "make it." something terribly off in this whole
scenario. george clooney did er for many years and was considered fairly
"made it" i think before he went to the movies... i may be wrong, but i
think his er days are never forgotten by his fans. rambling, but
really, i feel an unfairness to brilliant tv actors here. here no matter
how successful you are, the system treats you like a wannabe film star
and doesn't pay you in proportion to your "star" appeal or ability to
pull audiences. also there are no work hours, no basic thinking through
of your needs as a person, and yes, script can be shot to hell at will
as we all found... but, eternally you are "just a tv actor." if i look
at it that way, there were almost 40 films i saw of barun and sanaya in
those one and a half years. and 25 of them were superhits (20 in a row),
10 hits, 5 flops. the jodi was breathtaking. the heroine was beautiful
and a great actress. the hero was handsome and a phenomenal actor. i so
wish someone will see the potential of these two actors and make another
memorable show.

oh, hero!
